No-addict:
An initiative to tackle the menace of growing problem of drug addiction, we have initiated a school based drug abuse prevention program called “Unplugged” in collaboration with Rotary club of Mumbai Ghatkopar. Also we have started conducting training programs for doctors to equip them with knowledge and skills to handle drug abuse patients. In the first program in May 15, around 90 doctors underwent an extensive 16 hours training.
Our Addiction Project related work started in 2015 with training of doctors councelors and psychologists in Addiction medicine, in collaboration with Rotary clubs and KEM De-addiction centre, Mumbai and has catered to 2400 doctors from Mumbai and Pune. In 2018 we have started lectures on addiction for college students. We hope this will help reduce addiction amongst younger generation.
Addiction Medicine certificate course is designed for family physicians to equip them to screen and manage addiction at the primary care level. It is a novel idea, practised may be nowhere else in India. The idea is to make Addiction medicine a primary care subject – to prevent and stop addiction in the early stages before it causes physical, financial, familial, legal and spiritual damage to the addicted person.
We have conducted such training workshops at Navi Mumbai, Ghatkopar, Juhu, Dombivali, Vashi , Thane, Malad and workshops in Pune at Tilak Road, Deccan Gymkhana, Sahakar Nagar, Yerawda, and Chinchwad. Till date the initiative has reached more than 1200 doctors giving them in – depth knowledge about an untouched but crucial topic of addiction. And hopefully this will go a long way to positively influence the addiction scenario in their respective communities. We aspire to take this initiative across Maharashtra and beyond.
